If you walk The Roaches path you will pass Doxey Pool, according to legend home to a mermaid, Jenny Greenteeth, who waits to lure passers by to their death.

Cutthroat bridge, close to Ladybower in the Peak District is aptly named, with two grisly tales, one from history and the other more recent.

A popular assumption is that the Peak District gets its name from the hills in the area. The roots of the name go much further, back to Anglo-Saxon times and the Pecsaetna
